Get to know Parga
Parga is an idyllic coastal city in Northwestern Greece. The small city is located between the port cities of Igoumenitsa and Preveza in the Ionian Sea and belongs to the province of Epirus.
Typical for Parga are the picturesque houses built on the slope, the small chapel located on the island Nisaki and the Venetian castle, Kastro, from the 16th century. The landscape with gently curved hills and lush greens is a beautiful contrast to the azure blue of the Ionian Sea.
Parga can be subdivided into four quarters. In the center there is the port and there are countless restaurants, bars, ice-cream stands as well as small boutiques and souvenir shops. In the center you can also find the beach Krioneri and the small island Nisaki with a small chapel of the Holy Panagia. Over to the east you can find the small beach, Piso Krioneri , which means behind the beach Krioneri. From the center 65 steps lead to the old part of the city, named “Turkopazaro”. These steps are known to whole Greece. There is a lovely song dedicated to them, praising the steep rise and beauty of Parga: ”Ach tis Parga ton aniforo”. Your Greek friends will surely know this song. In Turkopazaro you can find the fortress, built in the 16th century, which rises over Parga and is characterized as the landmark of the city.
From the old center a way leads to the 1 km long beach Chrisogiali, also named as Valtos. There are multiple beach bars and numerous opportunities for watersports. This region is pleasantly quiet and appears with a lot of green areas. In the meanwhile, it is only a few minutes to the beach or a short walk to the old city or the center.
